How do I file for a patent

The USPTO at www.ustpo.gov provides the following checklist:
● Determine the type of Intellectual Property protection that best suits your invention. This may be a patent, Trademark, copyright or combination thereof.
● Research to see if your invention is patentable. It is advisable to perform a patent search to see if such an invention already exists.
● Choose what kind of patent will fit the needs of your invention.
● Prepare an application to file and include all relevant information in it to disclose the inventive aspects in full detail. You may choose to have a Patent Attorney or Agent file it for you or you may file pro-se.
● Submit the application and pay fees to the USPTO. Current fees can be found at www.uspto.gov/learning-and-resources/fees-and-payment/uspto-fee-schedule
● Interact with the Patent Examiner when the time comes for an Office Action.
● Receive your application approval.
● Pay the maintenance fees.
